The humidity is high today, and the Frizz Forecast Index is 10/10 RED.
Unfortunately, today’s a ponytail day!
My daily hair routine usually depends on what the weather is gonna look like and how much humidity is in the air.
Thanks to our Frizz Forecast app, I can plan my hairstyle accordingly to stay fabulously weatherproof without any unexpected humidity-induced frizz.
Here it is:
The Frizz Forecast Index
Search your location and click on the closest match from the search box and voila!
Once you’ve added a location, you won’t have to search again. The app will remember it every time you load the page. So you can bookmark it and check the frizz forecast every day.
If you’re going on holiday abroad, you can also use it to check the humidity and frizz forecasts for your destination.
What is The Frizz Index and How Does It Work?
The frizz index is a color-coded forecast ranging from a scale of 1 to 10 to predict how frizzy your hair will get based on your local area weather conditions.
The index effectively illustrates a frizz factor, which predicts the probability of a bad hair day.
Frizz Factor Explained
The frizz factor is a measure of frizz level that can be expected under various conditions for any hair type.
The formula correlates atmospheric humidity measurements, dew points, heat, cold, wind, and precipitations to accurately indicate whether you’re likely to experience frizzy and static hair.
So let’s take a more detailed look at how this smart weather forecast does it.
Humidity
Hair is sensitive to humidity.
Therefore, the humidity indicator is one of the main factors used to calculate the Frizz Index.
Humidity describes the concentration of water vapor or water molecules in the atmosphere.
Because hair is porous like a sponge – if it’s not adequately hydrated, it tends to soak up moisture from the humid air. As a result, it doubles back on itself at a molecular level, swelling and disrupting the cuticles to cause frizz.
Dew Point
We know that humidity makes the hair frizzy, but dew point is a more accurate measure to understand how fast the moisture content can affect your hair.
For example:
Let’s look at the two scenarios below:
- Location A: 90% Humidity at 35°F heat and 2°F Dew point
- Location B: 60% Humidity at 70°F heat and 21°F Dew point
Which location do you think will affect your hair most?
The answer is Location B because of its higher dew point.
Humidity with a higher dew point is like walking into a sauna!
Wind
High gusts of wind can whip your hair into a frazzled mess, sap moisture out of your strands, and create tangles and snags.
That’s why it’s essential to plan your hairstyle accordingly.
If the wind forecast is high, it’ll be better to have a sleek topknot rather than having your hair down.
Rain
No one wants to get caught unexpectedly in a downpour with perfectly tousled waves or the smoothest of blowouts.
Rain can throw any hairstyle into a disheveled mess.
By factoring all these crucial weather elements, the frizz index uses a clever algorithm to calculator the frizz risk factor for you.
Therefore, you don’t have to look at all these individual readings to make up your mind.
And let’s be honest, how many times have you checked the weather forecast for rain and still ended up with frizzy hair because you failed to check the dew point forecast!
Yep! I’ve been there many times.
